The pressurisation of stairwells is an increasingly common method of ensuring safe means of exit from a building on fire. Pressure control must be in place to maintain minimum

and maximum stairwell pressures within agreed parameters.

BS EN 12101-6:2005 (replacing BS 5588-4:1998) requires pressurised fire escapes to be maintained at 50 Pa and limited to a maximum of 60 Pa.

Marine Valves

Apreco has the expertise to provide bespoke solutions for pressure relief valves used on Marine Vessels.

Typically applications for these valves are:-

  1. Installed in the ventilation ductwork transporting conditioned air from one compartment to another by virtue of pressure difference. The valves are designed to be positively tight at pressures below the set pressure.
  2. Fitted at key locations in the ductwork to release exhaust air from compartments such as galleys to atmosphere via an exhaust duct fan.

The VARI-centric® Air Pressure Stabilisers are utilised to maintain the positive pressurisation of operating theatres and isolation rooms, to protect them from the ingress of infectious agents passing through open doors by providing high air volume flow rates is a well-established principle of hygiene and infection control.

Apreco have been acknowledged for their assistance in contributing to Health Technical Memorandum (HTM 03-01) which supercedes HTM 2025. They have also assisted with the validation of Isolation Room design following Health Building Notes (HBN 4 : Supplement 1).

When following the guidelines of HBN4 Supplement 1: Isolation facilites in acute settings the VARI-centric Air Pressure Stabilisers are utilised to maintain the positive pressurisation lobby ensuring that air from the corridor does not enter the isolation room, and that air from the room does not escape into the corridor. This basic but effective design enables the suite to be used for both source and protective isolation without the need for switchable ventilation or special training for staff. Importantly it also provides safe isolation for those patients whose exact condition is unknown.

Demand for Apreco fire suppression vents is increasing with the recognised need for over and under pressure venting associated with Inert and Synthetic Gaseous Fire Suppression Systems.

Apreco FSV & SGV pressure relief vents are of 'counter-weighted' design to prevent the risks of over and underpressurisation resulting from the use of gas fire suppression systems. The Apreco range of pressure relief vents have been successfully tested to EN1363-1 criteria to provide a 4-hour fire resistance rating.

BS EN 12101-6:2005 (replacing BS 5588-4:1998) requires pressurised fire escapes to be maintained at 50Pa and limited to a maximum of 60Pa.

Apreco’s extensive range of standard pressure relief vents (dampers) are characterised by ease of installation. For internal siting, the blade balancing system allows vertical, horizontal and inclined mounting. A variety of bespoke external solutions are also available, including weather protection using fixed or motorised low loss louvres and penthouse assemblies.

Apreco can offer differential pressure monitoring solutions to meet varying site requirements some systems will simply be required to monitor a pressure differential between just one room and another. Typically this type of system will use a single pressure transmitter (APT System) with a local display which may be linked to the BMS system for external alarming where required.

More involved applications may require a multiple channel system for monitoring a number of rooms potentially on a pharmacy production type facility (DPM System). The software for these systems has the ability to have the alarm levels adjusted and where required passord protection can be enabled.

Due to the application of these valves they are individually subjected to rigorous manufacturing and test protocols which are independently witnessed by a third party like ABS, who specialise in Marine and Off Shore product inspections and validations.
